Minneapolis / St. Paul Wedding DJ – Questions to Ask

A wedding DJ is the one and only vendor that can truly make or break your wedding reception.
They’re also one of the the only vendors that will be speaking directly with any of your guests.
When searching for a wedding DJ, there are some very important questions you should be asking:

1.) Is their package for unlimited reception time? Our package is for unlimited cocktail, dinner and dance music. If it’s for a certain number of hours, keep in mind that most venues do not allow a DJ to set up once the guests have arrived. Also, if you go over your time, you’ll see some major charges the next day ($150-$200 per hour!)

2.) Do you have complete control over your reception? With our online event planning software, you’ll be able to customize every detail of your night from start to finish. No DJ should ever force you to play music that you don’t want played, or do things you don’t want to. If they have an event planning tool, make sure that they follow it closely, and not take it as just a “suggestion tool”.

3.) How far in advance do you get to speak to your DJ? You’ll speak with your Instant Request DJ 2 or 3 weeks before your reception. Keep in mind that speaking to your DJ that week of the wedding will be both difficult to arrange, and in the midst of an incredibly busy week. Make sure you have the ability to speak with your DJ early enough.

4.) Can you see a picture of your DJ? When your Instant Request DJ is assigned, we’ll send you a photo, bio, and all of their contact information. Some companies are notorious for actually contacting Craigslist DJs to do weddings for them on busy dates. That means they don’t even know who your DJ is! When you get your DJ assigned, make sure you can see who they are, and that they work for the company you hired.

5.) Are there any hidden fees? Our service includes everything you need for the entire reception; lighting for the dance floor, a wireless microphone, unlimited time, and online event software. These should never be “add-ons”. Make sure that everything you need for your night is included, so you don’t end up learning you need to pay more for something that should be included.

  1. Whenever we called the office they were able to answer all of our questions and helped ease the stress of the planning process. I loved the event planner. I felt like it was a great way to communicate very specifically what we wanted for our reception, but be able to update and modify the information as needed throughout the months of planning, it covered everything that I needed. Reid was very professional and wasn’t obnoxious like other DJ’s I have observed at weddings. Reid did an excellent job communicating with us and the other key people at our wedding to make sure things ran smoothly. We were very pleased with him and would recommend him to our friends. The sound and lights provided a fun and classy atmosphere for the dance portion of our reception. I love how organized and professional the whole process was for us. Instant Request allowed us to personalize our event, provide us with options, but never force their own opinions. They truly set it up so that the bride and groom could create exactly what they want for their day, and they made it happen through selecting a DJ that fits our idea and style.
